A pub closed its doors this week after being put on the market.

The Railway Hotel in Moses Gate shut Monday with its future uncertain as it has been sold subject to contract.

The pub is run by Joseph Holt which operates breweries across the North West.

In total the business operates 125 pubs.

It is now unclear whether it will continue to be used as a pub.

The property has been marketed by Fleurets for £250,000 plus VAT.

The brochure states the building may suit alternative use.

A spokesperson for the group said "An offer has been made for it.

"We do not know what is is going to be, we don't always know."

The Bolton News: The door has closed

A statement was posted on the Railway Inn Facebook page, about the pub closing.

It stated: “It is with a heavy heart that the railway pub has now closed permanently.

“We would like to thank all our staff and customers for your custom and support over the years.

“Your closest Joseph Holt Pub is now Dukes Gate, Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton.”

Another message read: "It's come to the day we're it's our last day trading today, we have had our ups and downs but we have enjoyed the pub we just want to say thank you to everyone what stood by us love will bev and boys xxxx"

The pub's social media page will close later this week.

The Railway Inn has also shared photos of memories from people at the pub down the years.

They showed a Santa entertaining children, people in fancy dress, customers enjoying a drink and children at parties.

The Bolton News: The pub has shut down

The announcement of the closure comes at a difficult time for the pub industry with rising costs.

In March it was announced that the Seven Stars Pub, Harwood, had closed its doors and had gone up for sale.

The move came after the owner decided to “move on” and it was listed on the market.

It is now under offer.

And earlier this month it was announced the Cotton Tree Pub in Halliwell was also for sale and may not even be carrying on as a pub under new ownership.

It is being marketed by Fletchers CRE who have said the venue could be converted into residential use or other developments.

The Bolton News has contacted Joseph Holt for a comment regarding the closure but are still waiting to hear.
